Joshua Raven was born in 1972. Art has always been a big part of his life. As a Grade 7 student at George Jay Elementary School in Victoria, he was exposed to First Nations art and actually worked with the artists. He attended the University of Victoria, studying fine arts, on scholarships and bursaries, for one year when he was 17. He then studied for two years at the Victoria Motion Picture School.
Josh has worked in all different media including sculpture, silk screening, oil and acrylic paints, graphic art and ceramics.
Josh has always felt drawn to our island’s natural history. When he decided to paint a mural, it was only fitting that he should choose the beautiful and majestic orca as his subject. He created Orcas, his first and only mural, in 2001.
