What began as a simple welcome sign has blossomed into a vibrant mural, beautifully depicting cherished Kinsmen Beach Park, a true gem for Chemainus residents and visitors of all ages. This colourful artwork captures the essence of “Kin Beach,” where everyone enjoys the stunning ocean vista, complete with a recognizable navigational marker on a small islet. Views of both Thetis and Penelakut Islands can be seen from the beach along with far off views of Valdes Island.
Adding a significant layer of respect and local heritage, the mural’s welcome message is thoughtfully presented in both English and the Hul’q’umi’num language, honouring the Penelakut Tribe of the Chemainus area. This mural thus serves as both a warm welcome and a vibrant tribute to the natural beauty and rich cultural tapestry of Chemainus.
